Key Information

We have action packed days full of learning through exploration. We have times where we work as a whole class, in groups and independently. Each day we practise our phonics, writing and maths and we also have lots of time for children to pursue investigations and follow their own interests.

We read and explore a number of traditional tales and contemporary fiction; develop early number work and enjoy creative activities which help us to explore the world around us. We use the SoundsWrite phonics programme and banded reading books to help develop our pupils’ early reading skills.

We are lucky to have a fantastic outdoor space and the children are able to move inside and outside throughout the day.

In Reception we hear each child read at least once a week. They will read Oxford Reading Tree, Sounds-Write and Dandelion books.

All Oxford Reading Tree books will be changed on a Friday.

Sounds-Write / Dandelion books are changed when your child is heard read.

Please ensure that all reading books are brought to school every day.

Every child also has a yellow reading record which needs to be signed at least once a week in order for us to change their books.

In Reception your child has access to the outdoor area every day. In order to be able to use this area, please ensure that your child has the appropriate clothing (e.g. a coat). Please can you also ensure that all items of clothing are labelled.

Previous Home Learning

In Reception the expectation is that you will hear your child read at home at least 5 times a week. Apart from this, there is no formal homework set. However, we do set weekly tasks which support the learning happening in class and keep you updated.
