Online education

Posted on: 18/03/2020

As you are aware, the school is currently closed to the vast majority of pupils. During this time, we will regularly post online learning tasks for your child to complete at home. You should have received an email from a new class email address (e.g. crimsonclass@alfredsalter.com). You will be able to use this address to contact your child's class teacher and send photos of your child's work - your child's teacher (or another teacher if they are unavailable) will then be able to give some feedback on your child's work. Please check your junk mail and then email this address directly if you have not received an email, as a small number of the email addresses didn't work when we inputted them. There are also home learning packs available on each year group page, should your child require additional work.

Please aim to email at least once a week. If we don't hear from you, we will call home to check but it would be helpful to receive an email so we don't have to do this!

If your child is currently working at a lower level than their peers, we recommend that you look at the work set on the lower year groups' pages - your child's teacher will be able to advise on this by email.

In addition to these daily tasks, there are currently a large number of free websites which support open-ended learning. Websites which require logins will be listed on the year group page. Other websites (and there are a lot of them!) will be listed under the 'Learning' tab, on the page entitled 'Websites to use during school closure'. Please give us a couple of days to get these pages up to date.

We appreciate that it will be difficult for parents to juggle having the children at home with the many other challenges created by this extraordinary situation. As a minimum, we would like your son or daughter to practise times tables and number facts (this can be done through the Times Table Rockstars and Numbots sites) and to spend time reading (aloud, for children who are in Reception to Year Three) every day. Reception, Year One and Two children would also benefit from practising their phonics skills : the 'Initial Code' app - available on iPad - is great for this if you have one.

We very much hope that we will be able to see you all soon. In the meantime, please do follow government guidance and stay home as much as possible! Many thanks for your support and we hope that everyone stays well and safe,
