Special Educational Needs and Disability (SEND)

'Provision for pupils with education, health and care (EHC) plans is outstanding.'

At Alfred Salter Primary School, we are very proud of our provision for children with additional needs. We are a fully inclusive school that is not afraid of adapting our curriculum to meet an individual’s needs. We offer a safe, creative and fully inclusive environment to our children with additional needs.

Our school’s SEND Information Report (available as a document to download on this page) provides an overview of the various additional interventions we offer to support all learners, as and where appropriate. If you wish to discuss your child’s support interventions, please do not hesitate to get in touch with Sonia Litherland – SENDCO  – sen@alfredsalter.com

Additional needs are identified before, on entry or at any point during your child’s time at Alfred Salter Primary School. The appropriate intervention, referral or support is then put in place – as per our SEND Information Report.

The following points are highlights of our provision:

Specialist Learning Assistants (SLAs):

SLAs teach small groups of children who are not making the progress we expect/not attaining the levels we expect. The SLAs liaise with the class teachers and leadership team to devise a differentiated programme that is monitored and reviewed regularly.

Speech and Language Therapy

Speech therapists are available to support our children as and when required, and work with the leadership team, class teachers and children’s learning staff to deliver appropriate plans and interventions across the whole school.  Such plans and interventions are for children who have been referred, by the school or by a medical professional. These programmes can include speech sound production, language development and social skills, depending on the child’s needs. Our speech and language therapy provider is Sarah Buckley Therapies https://www.sarahbuckleytherapies.co.uk/

Wellbeing Team:

A child’s mental health is important to ensure they become life-long learners. We pride ourselves on our wellbeing offer at our school. Our adaptive, flexible and personal provision is provided by a specialised and qualified team consisting of a Family Support Worker and Wellbeing Mentor. We also access support through Future Men: https://futuremen.org/
