School Council

At Alfred Salter Primary School, we have a school council. At the start of the school year, school council elections are held in every class from Year 1 to Year 6. Each class votes for who they think would be the best person to represent them on the council and to put forward their ideas and suggestions. The school council members then elect a chair, deputy chair and a secretary to run the meetings and to keep order. Meetings take place once a month.

The school council is responsible for organising certain events for charity such as Red Nose Day. In 2007, the school council chose to create an art gallery of 'red' paintings which included contributions from across the school. They also held a non-uniform day and a very successful cake sale. The school council's latest project is to improve the playground. The members are completing surveys and questionnaires to find out what the children think of the playground and to collect any ideas they might have for improving it. The council members will then meet with the Headteacher to decide what can be done.
